And yes, switching the bellhousing will work, ive done it before, it could last quite a long time like that but it is a risk you would be taking.
The problem is the clearances wont be right, when you chuck it in you will notice you have to pull the TC right up to the flywheel as the pump will allow the TC to slide right back to the point that it will rub on the bellhousing bolts.

Theres a lot more detail to it but when bolted up you will be riding on the edges of the pump rotors as you would have actually half way unseated the TC.

Thanks for your reply, I've decided it's in my best interest not to play around with it & spend a little money to buy a brand new gearbox.
