Uni joints and maybe the CV joint are getting a bit so so. Would rather go to the wreckers and get a complete tailshaft and change the bits first, then stick it on. Will a 6 cyl tailshaft be okay for V8 or are the uni joints etc bigger?

Different length.

Front section is engine & trans combination dependent.
Rear section is body type dependent.
Same uni joints, center bearing and cv joint used in all of them

So a v6 auto shaft will not suit a v8 auto
A v6 auto shaft will not suit a v6 manual.

If you need something longer to cut down, the front section from VT-VX sI is longer than vl-vs.
VX sII onwards is no good as it's a different design.

A VT sedan should be fine to cut down-yeah?? I already have a btr80 in the rear of the VP and assume the floorpanels are all the same in sedans from vb to vz (not that the tailshaft)ends are same vx-z) so the rear length in the sedan types would be the same?? Just from the centre bearing forward due to 4/5/6 speed/Auto lengths??

Nah, they changed the location of the center bearing in the vt/vx, it's closer to the diff so the rear section is shorter than previous models and the front section is much longer.

So the front section is only useful for cutting down, but there's going to be many more auto vt/vx sI shafts around cheaper than a specific shaft for vl-vs.

Nah floor pans are basically the same VB-VS, different VT-VZ

Ah awesome! Thanks for the input! Might just look at a vn/s 6 or 8 tailshaft for now until i can afford a youbeaut 3" thickwall...

moving that bearing backward is probably what got rid of that awful shudder under hard acceleration in VR VS IRS
