Seems odd if you used all the original VS wiring looms.

RPM comes from the DFI module, speed comes from the VSS on the trans via the PCM to the dash and they all use the same DFI modules and speed sensors.

The speed sensor on trans meaning the 2nd plug at the extension housing?

Nope. Just search for Commodore speed sensor online and see what comes up. Should be fairly common.

No worries thankyou i found one on ebay.
Ive got another problem im chasing is that when up to operating temp the top radiator hose is warm but the bottom is cold and i can feel as if theres no pressure ive replaced the thermostat twice now as it feels like its staying closed but only letting a minimal coolant through to the bottom hose...?

If the top radiator hose is getting warm than the thermostat must be opening, how long have you let it run? Once the thermostat opens it will take a little while for the radiator to heat up. Give it some time to fully heat through and watch the engine temps.

Sounds like you have an air lock which is quite common on these engines, use the bleed screw on top of the thermostat housing.
