Hey mate, I've done around 80k kms travelling oz in my Landcruiser and VT wagon mostly in outback sa and the top end. I've hit one roo and it had to be in the VT, was still drivable though.

I've always tried to limit exposure by not driving at dawn and dusk, up around that way I've found the chance of hitting cattle more likely than roos due to them congregating on the roads at times.

Whereabouts are you planning on heading?

I'm in Canberra where roos are like rats in NYC they don't come out during the day.

Most likely to hit wildlife from dusk till dawn. Having said that take a look at my build thread for a bull bar that goes over the existing plastic bumper cover and bolts up underneath. They won't help a whole lot if you hit a wombat but a small grey roo they will stop. In Tas we have only the odd few large roo, but 1000s of wallaby.

Spend $6.00 at sprints/supercheap or repco and buy some plastic shuroos....I have been using them for 15 + years and haven't hit a single roo.

I have done plenty of night time driving around roo territory in S.A and from S.A to QLD....I have actually seen roos in the paddock stick their heads up and go the opposite direction.

Must say I am surprised.....All the night time driving through roo country I have done with shoroos, I have only ever had 1 fright with a roo....He was right beside a road side marker and I didn't see him until he stuck his head up, when I was about 10 feet away from him.....I hit the roof, without leaving my seat ....

I attribute him sticking his head up, to the noise the shooroos emit....
