Accelerator cable too lose at 10 millimeter's of play?

Adjust it so there is just a little bit of slack in the cable

measured our wh ecotec. from flat to taut it's about 5mm. He drove my car and said there was definitely alot more pedal movement before the car actually moves off. Both cars have the same idle rpm as expected. He did point out the pedal does feel like it is coming off the arm and clicks into place though. Any thoughts?
