is there anywhere or anyone in adelaide i could take my pain in arse vs to who might be clever enough to give an exact diagnosis as to what the #### is making this car drink so much fuel?

any businesses do free quotes or cheap quotes that might do the compression tests or even put the laptop to it

i seem to be goin round in circles ticking every box but achieving nothing

i put 20 litres in & in gave me 120km omg tired of my own car ripping me off. soon to sell it if continues

Awesome Automotive work almost exclusively on commodores and Leon is the local guru on V6's (he is widely regarded as one of the best Holden V6 tuners in SA)

Leon is hard to get hold of by phone so best to visit during business hours.

But I would try and sort it yourself.
If you haven't already, get yourself a new set of O2 sensors (must be new as they generally only last a year or two anyways)
And try a second hand MAF.

These two items are the economy killers.

hmm yeah got new o2's

the maf is interesting, its not running rough, just running rich, could the maf still be stuffed? i mean its might cost me $40 - $50 just to find out its not buggered at all

That's just the process of elimination unfortunately.....most mechanics will do the same thing, keep replacing components until the issue has been narrowed down.....unless they are a specialist like leon who will run a laptop over it and look at everything going on (which will cost you a lot more than replacing cheap components like MAF's etc), because most standard workshops don't have laptops with diagnostic equipment etc, you need to go to a tuner/specialist to get that sort of treatment, and specialists come with specialist labour rates. (the tuner a mate used to go to charged $120 just to get the car through the door) (This is why I don't like EFI cars, too many sensors etc to go wrong)

the MAF may cause the car to run rich and not rough depending on it's condition, so can the coolant temp sensor, the air flow sensor in the airbox etc......even the wiring could be dodgy to some of the sensors (you could get an auto elec to check this but that will also be high on the labour rates as once again, they are specialists)

Unfortunately when it comes down to diagnosing difficult problems like this there isn't often a cheap way about it.

We do the same thing at work when diagnosing our faulty equipment for a customer, there is no sure fire way to tell what is causing their issue so we have to do the process of elimination by replacing components until the issue is resolved.....

It helps with backfires on LPG, I used to do the same thing in the VP. No real difference in performance... Should be around 1.2 not 1.5 though.

Yeah, you narrow the spark gap for LPG.

But even then, a .5mm spark plug gap difference isn't going to cause the major economy issues you are having, it would only make a very small difference

I had a set of plugs that were in there for far to long, They had eroded out to 2-2.5mm, The Idle was the main thing it fixed did feel all around better to drive with fresh plugs though !

But fuel economy stayed much the same made perhaps 30k's to a tank difference if that.
