Hi Deuce,

So why do engines feed in at the bottom (return) then and exit (feed out) at the top ?

Good question.
Feed in the bottom, fill the cooler, exit out of the top.
Rather than in the top fall to the bottom and then out.
I feel it might cool slightly better pushing fluid upwards.
Honestly works fine either way and doesn't really matter. But.....

In at the bottom and out at the top will eliminate any trapped air.

You're kidding aren't you ??? it's being pumped through so there will be no air trapped at all and the pick up is submersed at all times, so not possible.

Would there be air in there when you install, replace radiator or hose/pipe?

Outlet from transmission to top of radiator, and return from bottom to transmission cooler then back to transmission return.

Yes there would be but as I suggested above it would be instantly pumped out of the pipe work system and find it's way into the lower section of the trans where the fluid sits in the pan.

I have my bottom pipe straight from the trans into the lower fitting on rad, the other one goes from the trans to the left of the ext cooler and the outlet on the cooler back to the top of the rad. This is how the trans tech set it up, so I went with what he had before.
Basically from factory the bottom line from the trans goes to the bottom of the rad and top to top. I don't know which way it flows though. The short hard line has to really go to the bottom because of the way it's bent and same with top if running factory set up. Otherwise soft hose would be going all arse about.
