hey guys i want to buy a holden VE commodore omega, but i dont know which one is better, with Alloytec 3.6/4 speed auto gearbox or SIDI 3.0/6 speed sport auto??? power, acceleration, shift gears...
i think the 6 speed sport auto gearbox is better than the 4 speed auto one, but how much different between these two? and what about the engine. anyone can help???

Depends on price range etc I guess

We have a 4sp dual fuel MY10 berlina and don't seem to miss the extra gears(did 40000km in a year), some do complain about the 3l lack of torque. go a 3.6l 6spd in you can afford

3.6 all the way. My VE is now 5.5 years old with 4 speed box, and it's fine. And the car has heaps of power when and if needed.

Have had a fair bit to do with commodore fleets over the years. The 3L SIDI (LF1 / LFW) is far superior to the earlier low output 3.6 (LY7) and puts out more power 190 KW for 3.0 and 175 KW for 3.6. Fuel economy is also vastly superior. 6 speed auto much smoother than 4 speed.

Go for the 3.6 over the 3.0 , feels more powerful in my opinion , more torque as well , if you can , go for a SV6 or Calais , in the VE they are more powerful

Never owned a 3L but work cars avg 13L, our amf SS is on 12L, real world econy of the 3l isn't good from what I hear. If your towing or live around hills etc get a 3.6

yep , can concur with that , some of the our 3.0 L general duties Omegas use more fuel than the 3.6 Omegas and SV6 ones , it very much depends on how you use them , I don't think I'd want to be towing with a 3.0 L one , it's a heavy car , with a busy little engine , even the extra cogs on the transmission cant really help it .

Are you serious! My experience is about 9 average for the 3L Omega (7.5 -8 highway) and about 12 average for the 3.6 Omega. As the OP has mentioned only Omegas I presume we are all comparing apples with apples.

very much depends on how they're driven , if I drive my VZ SV6 economically I have seen it return 9.5-10 average highway .
