The alternator just gave in on my caprice, its done just over 170k just wondering how long they are meant to last?

Not sure Darkside. Im having issues with ignition modules. Done 2 in a matter of a few years. Im thinking my alternator is spiking. Ive done 265,000 k's with original alternator. Pretty sure that it is seen better days. LOL. Time to replace.
