It's very "out there" noticeable, with that paint job, I'll give them that.
The story on the paint-job is that they were worried that if regular innocent citizens could properly see the actual shape of the vehicle, they would start uncontrollably vomiting.
The paint is a PR job in more ways than one.

They'll probably still run a commodore, as there's some guy wanting to keep the commodore going as a specialist vehicle

I think they will run toyota's as they have high levels of technical knowledge, world wide distribution, with their lexus/toyota etc and would be able to custom design cheaply for a common toyota in to a pursuit car which would be economic in fleet purchases. They have a few toyota's in qld already, mainly holden still in sa, fords in melbourne, from what ive seen , but when all the factorys have gone overseas im guessing toyota thats my bet anyway.

Would you be prepared to hop into some of the ****-boxes that get impounded and get involved in pursuits? Stuffed if I would.

Umm, you should check on that. In NSW, pursuits are still carried out subject to oversight by the DOI (Duty Officer Inspector) in the Communications Branch. It's up to him to terminate pursuits. They aren't encouraged but under some circumstances, they still get carried out. In fact, as the result of a fatal collision that occurred a couple of years ago, where a couple of idiots tried to outrun police and caused the death of a young girl when they hit another vehicle, a new law, nicknamed "Skye's Law", was introduced as a deterrent to people trying to evade arrest by refusing to stop for police when directed.

Can't answer for other states.
