Hey, I can only think of 2 things, either the shaft has broken in half or the pin has come out. It's very hard for the pin to come out on it own unless someone has taken it out before and not put it in back again properly.

The pin is right on the bottom of the shaft. But what keeps the button down is the pin.

Are you able to pull the button out without unscrewing anything ?

you need to take the center console off to get access to the sides of the shifter gate. its really easy once you can see how to works. like DVS said its probly the pin.

so would the pin be broken or just loose? because no one has tampered with it... that i know of anyway.
is it a big job to pull it apart?
