my calais has 220,000k's on it and although box is not playing up so to speak, it feels like the auto out of an XF i used to own. can anyone explain to me about clutch plates inside the auto, i.e do you have to reco the whole box, or can you just replace bits and pieces internally.
i drove a VT wagon s2 with 70,000k's the other day and the auto felt much tighter. when you floored it it felt more like you were letting out a clutch. auto in my calais feels like you are winding up a rubber band!

ok if it can be built it can be pulled apart. but as a rule no you cant go replaceing individual parts of an auto or manual even. much cheaper and easier to get 2nd hand box. try flushing your box with wynns or something at a garage. may kleen it abit otherwise sorry dude big bucks coming your way

Get a service should not cost too much, they should hopefully give an honest opinion on the life left in the gearbox, and give the bands a good adjustment.

sounds like you might just need to replace the oil in it mate.

Try this, can be done by yourself takes about 15mins from start to finish.

For christ sake make sure you get the right oil and if that isn't it, you've only wasted 20 bucks!

thanks guys, i spose i'd better take it to a specialist - changed the fluid and filter etc already... did not notice much of a change... i believe the bands aren't adjustable in the turbo 700 so maybe if i ask em to just give it a service and 'give their honest opinion. does anyone know of prices to get turbo 700 reconditioned? what sort of milege do you expect to get? i spose the mileage is indefinite if you change the fluid regularly! has anyone heard that changing gears in a manual fashion damages tranny? i find it provides a lot better control during cornering etc. my tranny is probably in pretty standard condition for 220,000, but after driving a VT with 75,000 it just seemed that much 'tighter'.
