I was right there, at the end of the straight were it goes into the S bend (Spa). Was a bloody horrible wet day that only dried out once the F1 cars got out on the track. Schumacher went out on a complete wet set up and was leading the race but as the track dried out Hakkinen came back at him and passed him as they split the back marker into the S bend.
Interestingly almost all the drivers were using 3rd gear into the S bend, however the top couple of drivers were pulling 2nd (Schumacher, Coulthard, Hakkinen) with huge revs to boot . Totally amazing Sound as the cars came up at full speed and then down shifted.
Most of the support races were cancelled. The Mercedes pace car and medical cars did more laps than anybody else.
