More info required.

Is the car auto or manual ?

Is the car banging when not moving or

banging when moving or

banging when trying to move.

Sure sounds like diff or drive train area.

Chock the wheels, hand brake firmly applied, put auto in drive and see if the tailshaft is turning.
If the tailshaft is turning then it is a diff-axle problem.

If the tailshaft is not turning but banging is evident then gearbox problem.

I have done thathe tail shaft does not move but I got.under the car while it was on a jack when placing it into gear the tail shaft seems to spin in the diff then lock in. Could that be the main pinion in the diff be broken.

Is the car still mobile? If so, either the pinion or crown wheel could have stripped a tooth. Once you get enough teeth broken off, drive will be lost completely. Drain the diff and check for nasty little shiny bits in the oil.
