Hi all recently decided to change diff oils in my VT ss and VX ss normally use castrol diff oils but none in stock so used penrite PRO GEAR 80W-140 which is supposed to have lsd type stuff in it. Both diffs(completey stock Holden lsds) both sub 200k are now making crunchy sounds at parking speeds, all good when at speed. Any one else had similar issue? i'm waiting for castrol stock and going to drop the penrite as its not to good t seems.

Note both diifss fine just thoughts id drop old fluid.

Why are they recommending to add that additive ?

From the Penrite website........... Pro Gear 80W-140 is already dosed with the correct amount of friction additive for use in limited slip differentials, no extra additive is required, nor should it be added as seal degradation may result.

Hope they are wrong there, as that is what I am using with no additive.

If you have the container, read if it says for LSD's

If it does, contact Penrite,as suggested, quoting what the container says and see what they say from that

I'll bet, they'll back pedal quicker that you can drive in reverse

i was suprised as well.
they are assuming not enought additive in my oil, maybe previous oil has a effect unsure. I'll go for a drive in the VX and see if noise settles down if good i'll add the rest of bottlw to the VT.

both stock holden LSD vt 186k on it VX has 198k. Both seem factory original.

I wonder if the old diffs dont like the synthetic oil. Mind you i change my VY ss with castrol stuff a few years back no issues.

I seem to remember there were a lot of issues with diff chatter on the factory LSD's with the M80's.
