you should be able to spend 2500 and get a built box, just getting a shiftkit makes it faster to die unless you beef it first heats the biggest killer for autos so keepin it cool is a good idea as well, an automatic specialist is your best point of call.

i would find a good trans builder and explain what sort of engine mods you are doing, that way if it doesn't hold, which I think it would as they are a tough box, you can go back. Cams and Hi stalls work together more than anything else in the car, make sure the auto mech knows what cam you are getting so he can match the stall to the cams max power range, other than that he will just do the standard band, clutches and valve body work to increase pressure of the shifts and steel servo to handle the higher pressure 1-2 shift.

my 4l60e was modified about 3 yrs ago, the main thing was changed was the 4 pinion planetary/sun gears (what ever you like to call then) to a 5 pinion from a 4l65e.
these gears are after market heat treated molly cast.
kevlar bands and 7pack type clutches allso kevlar.
shift points as per ECU setting but slighly firmer
the box is rated 1000 Nm so 4l100e is the norm.
a trans cooler run after the radiator cooler as to warm the box when cold, and mantian temp when towing.

i went through three 4l60e trannys in my vr v6 one of them cost $3500 to build with corvette servos stage 2 shift kit and a heavy duty convertor it lasted only 11 months the two stock ones lasted less than 3 months each and all my v6 had was a reco motor, mild headwork, cam, chip and exaust the auto tranny place i took it to told me that if your going to give one of these trannys a hard time buy another car as it wont last..

If you spent $3500 on a tranny and broke it with a V6 then you should demand your money back. Many people are running 500hp down these trannys and they run fine. Also I thought the VR only got the 4l60, not the electronic version, though I could be wrong.

I would have to agree with this, A good high-stall will set you back maybe $700 max for street which leaves $2800 for a kitted rebuild, find a new auto guy or what the hell are you doing to these boxes, first gear burnouts?

Even doing first gear burnouts, a built 4l60e would take it. First gear has the most clutches in the clutch pack. I can't possibly imagine how you could destroy a built tranny with a V6 unless the builder is an idiot. Plenty of burnout cars using 4L60e's.

True but cracking servo's is the reason everyone has a laugh at those who hold a first gear burnout. It almost guaranteed to happen.

True. You would have to be a real idiot and know nothing about car to hold a first gear burnout (or any non-organised burnout for that matter).
