My understanding is it's all about the spring rate. Heavy springs put a huge load on the cam lobe. The lower the idle the longer the time that high pressure is on the nose of the lobe.

Stock idle for stock and mild cams but start running aggressive ramp rates with heavy springs and bring the idle up.

Hpr30 for solid cammed 355 stroker with 1100rpm idle....engine build probably 10years old & be lucky to have 5000kms on it.

I'm careful with warming it up though basically foot choke for few minutes untill it idles by itself & temp guage moves then click in gear & drive it slowly untill properly warmed up...big stally helps lol.

Previous owner had expensive thinner castrol which was shite...usually has 2 bars on sle oil guage & catch can only has more condensation than oil in it these days.
