My understanding is it's all about the spring rate. Heavy springs put a huge load on the cam lobe. The lower the idle the longer the time that high pressure is on the nose of the lobe.
Stock idle for stock and mild cams but start running aggressive ramp rates with heavy springs and bring the idle up.
