He's not wrong, you can spend the cash on a rebuild, change the engine for a few green notes or get rid of it,

My opinion, the car isn't worth an engine rebuild,
If it's good, then it's not really worth throwing away, so the best option would be to change it out with another comparable engine. Assuming its a v6

We don't even know what engine it is!
How many kms? Is the gearbox nearing the end of its life too? All these to consider, and with no description of anything, what kind of response did you think you were going to get?

Set it on fire
Roll it off a cliff
Spend heaps of money fixing it

Just for 3 different options...

3 options:

get a job
move countries
Go fishing.

not sure if any of these will help, but they are still options.

Car still good, gearbox good. V6 with 270k on it. Don't wish to burn it, don't fish, no cliffs near by, already got job.
How much would a 2nd hand or exchange cost in QLD.

rebuild will probably be close to what the car is worth...
2nd hand engine anywhere between $100-$500 would be my guess.
If you have somewhere close enough that has car auctions you could probably pick up a complete car for close to the same as a donor.
