I'd give blood but because I'm from England, there's something to do with Mad Cow Disease that stops me being able. My old man used to do it for ages, but then he had to stop as well after they brought the new rules in.

Donates: Nothing
How many donations (if applicable): N/A
What organs (if applicable): N/A
Reason for donating/not donating: Somewhere in my family tree on my mothers side doesn't allow her to donate and it is apparently genetic, so I never explored the option.

A friend of mine tries to donate quite regularly and every time he does he vomits then feints, and his missus (who refuses to try because of his experiences) has to drive him home, now thats dedication!

How do you donate plasma etc ? I have only ever heard of blood and organs.

When you donate whole blood it's exactly that, WHOLE blood.

When you do plasma, the whole blood goes into a centrifuge, which spins around real fast and separates the plasma (yellowish looking liquid) from your blood. The rest goes back inside you.

Doesn't anyone worry that with all the corruption and such in the world, the doctors might pull your plug prematurely so some rich person can get a new liver?

Perhaps in america with their overtly capitalist medical system; in Australia rich or poor I imagine you'd go onto the waiting list with everyone else; have never heard of human organ trafficking...yet.

You'll have to contact the Red Cross directly.

It's usually not the medication that excludes you, it's the condition being treated.

I've been suffering from an auto-immune disease for about 8 years now, which requires me to get an infusion of immunoglobulin (IVIg) every 6 weeks. All I can say is kudos for all you guys who donate, without your blood the red cross would not be able to make the product and I would not be in remission right now! :beer chug:

Although, that being said, I couldn't donate because I took acne medication when I was a teen.
Had to wait 8 weeks after I stopped taking it.
