VG Ute, VR Wagon
Hi guys, a few of you know I have a VR wagon on the go, but the real performance build will be a VG ute.

This will be a bit tricky as I need her on the books/road before getting too stuck into the build. Hence I'm going to throw a running Ecotec in before going on to bigger and better things.

Well, here she is. She's not real pretty but she's all there.

Like I said, she's not pretty but she's (99%) all there. At least I won't feel too bad about the butchering to follow, heh.

Stay tuned!

As long as the body's good- anything else can be fixed at a reasonable cost.

The body work was the least of the costs on my old ute and it needed a bit of work. Everything was costly but that's cars.

Er, yeah, about that...

Looks she's not awful. The body panels are actually fairly straight and no major rust - a tiny bit here and there from the usual high-wear areas but nothing bad. The dash and major interior components are all reasonably decent too.

Everything was costly but that's cars.

If you can pick up your phone and run a 'how to' video on Youtube you can get most things done yourself - that's my attitude anyway. I've gone from knowing nothing about cars to rebuilding engines from an empty block and stitching in floors and panel work with a gasless MIG. My next hurdle is automatic transmissions as I haven't dealt with them much at all.

Anyway, Ecotec time!

She's got about 190k on her and out of a local car which is being parted. Full compliment of accessories and bolt-ons including exhaust manifold, runners to the cat (no cat though) and intake piping/airbox/etc. I'm going back later for the wheels and tyres so the current mismatched set will go away.

We'll see how we go with her once I get a few more days or evenings off.

If my vp had been column auto when bought...never would have modified a damn thing.

Mine looked like crap but body is surprisingly good for the life it has had although did have all annoying traits you'd expect of vn/p commodore.

Was that a bench seat model someone swapped seats in?

Planning on L67 eventually?

Yeah column autos are great, I really do like them. Precursor to modern paddle shifters really. No idea on if its been seat-swapped but I'd suggest so.

L67? If I could get my hands on one I would. Eventually it'll be getting a fair bit more horsepower though, one way or the other. For now it'll be just getting her on the road and running - that's the first hurdle.
