anyone had this problem? one of the brackets up under the parcel shelf that the boot struts attach to has broken off. would be a pain to get rewelded and then painted, wonder if i could bolt it back on?

any ideas?

thanks!

Shouldnt too hard to weld if you protect everything in the way...but theres no reason why you couldnt bolt it on...have to find out why it broke first.

the factory spot welds seem a bit crappy, but maybe the previous owners were rough slamming the boot - i've only had the car about a year. i'll need to pull the parcel shelf out and see if there is room for some bolts, otherwise welding will be the only way. which will mean pulling out the speakers, all the boot carpet, the rear seat i guess - god what a hassle.

I think that the brackets pulling away is a common fault. We had our Stato in at Holden getting a safety check and service thing done and that was one of the things they picked that needed fixing. I think I'll try and bolt mine before it breaks too as we have a gas tank in the way, so welding it is probably not an option $$$.

Why not replace the other strut with one suited to fit a model with a boot spoiler. That 1 strut will hold the boot lid up. Go n see repco!!

Not unusual according to a boot and bonnet strut guy I ran into not long ago.
He suggested after looking at my boot brackets, that before mine go, screw or bolt them into the shelf saving hassles later. The spot weld alone can't stand the stress.
Also need spoiler struts myself.

This just happened to me :(

What a pain!!

I'll be going at it with some screws I reckon.

Since this is an old thread, what have people done to get around this (without welding)?

Cheers,

An old broom handle about 1.5m long is an excellent boot prop....cheap too.

lol hako..
its a common prob, ive seen lots of them, bolts work well, like was said, to much stress makes them break.
cheers
