Skylarking, it was a long time ago and discs are nothing like as good as they are now but an E Type Jags on that road in Italy whos name escapes me had the temperature of their discs get up to 1000 degrees fahrenheit.
Temperature of the rotors get much hotter than the calliper body itself.

EBC sells rotor marking paint so one can visualise what temps their rotors (and pads) get to. It’s listed in the link I provided above.

The rotor paints supplied are:
#1 – 800°F/430°C
#2 – 1000°F/540°C
#3 – 1200°F/650°C
Paint all three separately in lines on your disc/rotor edge.

Mille Miglia was a punishing race for the times and would give the brakes a workout like many tracks would…

As @Immortality says, calliper paint must cope with brake fluid not just heat… so there is that

I heard the factory paint is not safe with brake fluid anyway. There was a post a couple of years ago where a member took his VE or VF in for a service and the caliper paint was damaged from brake fluid.

I'd always understood that brake fluid damaged all paint however the right thing to do would be to clean it off straight away.
