hey everyone
noticed the other day wen a speeds below 50kmph theres a noise like the pads are rubbing on the rear discs....dunno what it is mate said that discs mite be warped but i thought i would get a braking shudder with that (coz i dont ave one). another mate said it could be a wheel bearing?? rotors are quite gouged and have a few circular gouges on them.

any ideas as to wat the prob is???

btw im pretty certain its both sides that are making the noise, and both are gouged

cheers

Well there usually isn't anything to physicall pull the pads off the disc.
Just no pressure on them on so they are free to move a little and may contact the disc occasionally without causing undue noise. If the pads are worn to metal, you will hear them rattle on the disc.

How long since you had the brakes serviced properly? If they haven't been pulled down, cleaned, rekitted and lubricated they may be too stiff to fully release the pad pressure from the disc and be continually rubbing.

The Answer is Yes any mechanic should but the question is will they.
I found that despite all services being signed off on my VR log when I bought it, the rear brakes were practically inoperative because they had never been flushed through in the life of the car let alone actually serviced. It is common practice by some mechanics to just top up with fresh fluid so it looks good.

Never ever let a dealership service your car, they are in the business of cheapest cost to them bandaid treatment until the warrenty runs out. In my experience, they don't care how many times you bring the car back, they will not fix it properly. It seems to get to be a culture thing that applies to all their work.

You need a mechanic you can trust to do the job properly even with simple jobs like this. It's simple enough to do yourself but you will need a good compressor to be sure you can blow the cups out.
