Hey guys
i was just wondering if anyone has had this happen to them
if you have a look at the picture, thats my alternater and the bolt that holds it to the engine block
the mold that the bolt screws into snapped right off the other day
so now we are trying to figure out what to do with it
my mechanic said they havnt seen anything like this on the v8 engine
car has only done 150000km and has a tune and intake

any ideas??

thanks

Get it alloy welded back on and retap the thread would be the best option. You could use an adhesive weld, but that's a bit cheap, nasty and I probably would not trust it

I would replace the alternator and check that the new one fits into place nicely without forcing it. That old one was probably a tight fit or manufacturing defect which eventually let go.

Agreed get a new alternator or atleast try buy the casing and change your internals into it. Wreckers or exchangeautoparts.com.au.

I think he's referring to the block that is damaged. Alternator is easy... replace.

ah yeah its just the block that needs to be fixed
was wondering if we weld and tap it if it will still be strong enough

has anyone seen or heard of this before on the v8 engines?
thanks

Ah ok that's different...
Most engine shops do aluminium welding I'd take it in and get an opinion if they think they can weld it in place without damaging the engine.
