The Buick GNX V6 is the same block as the earlier commodore VN to VR, engine codes known as the LD5 LN1 and L27 all shared the same block, BTW the LD5 was in the GNX, VN series1 had the LN1 and the L27 was VN11 through VR. The Series 11 V6 which we in Aus called the Ecotec is known as the L36 this block has a lower deck height and different heads.

There were 2 different versions of the L67 Series 1 and Series 11 it is the series 11 that is in the Commodore and these are very good engines. The Block is the same as the standard Ecotec, everything else is different but these bottom ends are good for 600hp. If you build a standard Ecotec with forged internals and head work (FI of course) you should be in the 600-700hp range.

hope this helps

Forgot to add FIT had a VT Super6 they turboed with standard internals (L67) dynoed at 440RWHP pretty close to 600hp at the flywheel and this was on a stock bottomend.

Remember the VT is heavier than a GNX the VT if not a Calais would be closer to 3600lbs. The VS is lighter

If you have to have a V6, go for an aussie L67. They are far superior in efficiency and strength to a GNX engine. It was ahead of it's time but an ecotec based engine such as an L67 would be far more practical for epa and rego. Stock bottom end is good for 11s. If it's 10s you're after the budget will need to expand greatly and you will most likely need a built bottom end anyway. An LS1/ 2 conversion would be an easier option in the long run IMO. Nothing wrong with a head n cammed LS1 although F/F would be best

thanks for the replys im not getting one but i was wondering what the differendce was as there is one on yuotube with stock bottom end, cam, heads and its running mid 10s. and 3460pounds i think is about 1550kg and a vt s1 exec 1551kg from factory.

The GNX is also live axle and ther is an abundant lack of power robbing rubber couplings in the drivetrain lol

ah but not all vt are created equal series one dont have the rubber couplings but have standard needle roller uni's. our xu6 is 1640kg/ 3606lbs or 140lbs heavier than the gnx you quoted, same weight as a calais so yeah an exec would be closer..

10psi pulley dual 2.5" cat back and 3.45 gears gets the other wise stock xu6 down the 1/4 in 14.2@96mph so same motor with a ecotech manifold with twin throttle bodies, decent turbo and cooler would easily see much much lower times.

The GNX runs a ladder bar rear end which is why it pops wheelies. The traction in the rear end is awsome. Much better than a VT could ever muster

BTW the GNX is 3470lbs 1575kg heavier than a VT exec

incorrect. the gnx block(LD5) is very different to the vn on.. vn got the LN3 and the L27.
