Hello all, been a while since I have posted on the forums. I'm going to look at a Holden VH slx 308 this weekend and it is on club permit plates, how does it work buying a car on club permit? I have heard you can not transfer the plates across, how will I get the car home if the owner has to hand in plates to VicRoads and what is the process for me to register it back on club permit plates, any advice on this process would be great.

Cheers Tom.

Hey Tom, all the required information is on VicRoads website, have been looking into the same thing recently.

Yes, indeed cannot transfer club permit to another individual.
Club permit must be cancelled if car is sold to another person.
Refer to "Transfer a club permit":
https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/registration/limited-use-permits/club-permit-scheme/car-club-permits

To get unregistered car home, you will need an unregistered vehicle permit (or tow):
https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/registration/limited-use-permits/unregistered-vehicle-permits

Steps to apply for club permit again:
https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/registration/limited-use-permits/club-permit-scheme/get-a-club-permit

Thank's mate for the quick reply and the links, exactly what I was after.

.. one has to belong to an accredited car club (with Vicroads) to get a new set of plates

Can you do a vehicle check on a car that has club permit? I tried on the vicroads website but it did not work.

Cheers Tom.

The latest rules are you must have the vehicle RWC'd & inspected by the club's scrutineer to ensure the vehicle is eligible for the Club Permit Scheme. A form is to be filled out & signed by the scrutineer as proof.
