Camshaft Bearing and Valve Lifter Noise

Hi,

Is it possible for the camshaft bearings to rotate/slip in the engine block and subsequently effect oil flow and operation of valve lifters? Just want to confirm the comments made to me by my mechanic (who is trying to convince me that my engine needs rebuilding).

This all started with valve lifter noise

Thanks

mate if the bears are spinning in their seats then i would do some thing about it. i am guessing the head on the commo is alloy so that means bears can go through it like butter. yes if the bearing can slap around they WILL effect lifters and the whole valve train. not to mention that if the cam chain gets too loose then you can have a real disaster... lucky the ecotec doesnt have a chain.....

yeah the head is different to the block from what i understand. so i guess you ment the whole thing is cast iron.
still better to stop the bearing rotating.

For a mechanic to know that the cam bearing has rotated and blocked the oil feed holes he would have had to disassemble the motor. By the way, the cylinder head on the V6 is cast iron and the camshaft is driven by a chain.
