can i use a series 1 starter motor in my vn series 2

i need to change my starter motor in my series 2 vn and since i have a complete series 1 motor and box sitting in my shed i thought id see if it will work but thought i would ask here before trying it out

btw dude, apparently that gap on mine that we thourght was a problem, was normal
