finally got the new engine into my VE V6 after two and a half painful days.. however now when i turn the key there is no crank at all in park or neutral. when i put it into reverse and turn the key, a really weird crank happens, but car doesn’t turn over. we had to take the shifter linkage off when removing the auto transmission, and now that it’s back on, shifting gears feels funny, sort of like it’s tight/hard. any opinions anyone?

EDIT: just put it into park and noticed that the reverse lights are on - it also allows us to push it when it’s in park.

Sounds like youve misaligned something woth the trans linkage. Car wont start unless in neutral or park. Its cranking in reverse (which it shouldnt) and you have reverse lights on in park. I would check everything around the linkage and make sure its on properly.
