change cat converters to strait pipes

VR304 is right. Won't throw an error as the VY's are pre cat O2 sensor.
I had my cats removed and straight pipes installed (legal here in New Zealand). It gives the engine a slight burble sound and a tad noisier, but nothing drastic or noticeable unless you're listening for it. The odor of petrol is alot stronger as also mentioned above. I personally don't mind it, but some aren't a fan and it's not the best for the environment. I noticed a very small power increase. Probably more so due to the weight reduction than the actual increased exhaust ventilation (those damn cats are heavy).

If you're not interested in getting a shop to do it, you can purchase premade one with flanges off eBay from memory. The cats just unbolt.
But like everyone else, I'd highly recommend Hi-Flow cats, rather than straight pipes if you can afford it :)
