changing diff bearings

i have a somewhat noisy diff on my vr (whiring sound when driving)

how hard is it to change the bearings? and anyone whos done it could you please tell me the steps. ta

i have changed the diff oil, and the big cogs look ok, couldnt see any chips or the like in them.

(yes guys i did do a search for 'changing diff bearings' but couldnt find anything)

Yeah i had the same, real whine noise. I had the carrier and pinion bearings replaced. Was gunna do it myself but was talking to a mate at holden and apparently its a bit of a prick to correctly set up the backlash in the diff, and has to be done in the housing, with the axles in, not on the bench. So i just paid some 1 to do it.

Was $100 for wheel bearings/seals/pinion and carrier bearings. Was another collapsable washer or something (cant remember) Then it was $350 for labour to do the wheel bearings and diff.

I wouldn't try, get it done by an specialist, as mentioned you have to have the gear to set the preload and shim the pinion correctly.

get it done by someone else if your not confident and it means you have a warranty on there work also
