Cheap DIY EFI ECU

Hay guys.

Just found a interesting webpage about a DIY EFI computer that you can edit in real time using a laptop etc... The standard unit does only fuel but you can add a card into it that controls spark...

If any one is interested I am planning to order one in for myself.

The main thing about this project is that it is open source... and you can get the original program code, which means it is constantly evolving.

Have a look at http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html too.
There was an Australian megasquirt forum and they used to organise group buys of kits -don't know if they are still going.
This is probably the cheapest way to get a programmable EFI system and can be installed on just about any engine as long as you can fit suitable injectors.
Do a google search and you will find plenty of matches, especially in various make car forums and there are plenty of people who have it.
Be aware, though, that it is only a design and you need to source the parts and assemble it yourself. So, you do need a reasonable electronics construction skill.

He has sent plenty of kits to Australia without a problem.
All parts labelled and bagged seperately.

Go to the MSEFI site and download the Megamanual. Read it and then re read it. Then decide if you still want to go down this path. You will learn heaps about EFI and electronics, and have a ball doing so. Don't be afraid to ask questions on the forum (there's an aussie section), this is one of the most knowledgeable and friendly forums around.

Hey all,

A lot of the old school Bimmer guys have had this installed in there cars as if gives them better control of the fuel (as that is pretty much all the ecu's control) and it takes away the airflow meter giving better throttle response and a dam nice induction noise. As far as im aware u can use pretty much any kinda injector as long as it fits, u dont have to worry bout the resistance of the injectors as it does bout low and high. I am looking to put one on a turbo'd motor soon, should be fun!
