Hi, I am looking to buy a sportwagon but dont know whats the best bang for buck.
Is there much in the way of tuning for the 3.6L yet?
Would it be worth spending more to get the SS?
I am not after a HP mongrel just nice daily driver.
Is there a big difference between running costs from V6 to V8?
Thanks.
Ben.

Spend more, get the V8. Because you'll forever be chasing your tail $$ wise trying to get a 6 to perform.

I would get the SS. Mainly because, you can always just cruise around in an 8 and it will be well behaved, arlight on fuel (even better if you tune it) and happy days all round. But then, if the urge so takes you, you can plant your foot and enjoy a bit of umph. In the 6, you can cruise around the same as in the 8, obviously it will be a bit better on fuel when when driving normally, but when you put your foot down you will just be disappointed with the sound of a v6 struggling to put a grin on your face.

And if you start talking mods, then no contest. You put 2K into an SS and it will be great to drive, you put the same into a SV6, it will liven up but it won't be anywhere near the performance of the SS.

Ben.

So what do you actually want.

Title of thread says you want t to compare the two for modifications later on yet the actual post says you front don't want horsepower, just a daily driver.

So really, what are you after?

Regardless, SS.

Yeah obviously in the long run an 8 is going to have the HP edge. But just to balance things out a little, yes the 6 is tuneable and has got quite a few mods available. Just cammed mine and it sounds like this: MACE Cammed SIDI SV6 Rev - YouTube

If you are worried about running cost, get the ss on gas, mine is literally cheaper than a Prius to run, still ample oomph under foot when I want it.

If you want transport buy the SV6. If you want a nice powerful tourer that is a joy to drive, get the SS(V).

Not sure on gains yet as tuning not done. Will get it on a dyno when done. Unfortunately will be comparing with an E85 tune but on same dyno. Hoping to see a 15% gain on the E85 figures of 190rwkw. Cost so far for me with the cams installed is around $2300.
