Im considering buying a vk berlina 3.3l Efi automatic.

$400 unreg
rust in bottom of left rear door and little in boot
tear in rear door trim.

Just wondering, as alot of people in these forums have done engine swaps, what sort of power do you get for your dollar.

considering
rb20det + manual gearbox
rb25det + manual gearbox
5L Efi + manual gearbox

Apart from the engine and gearbox what other expences will i need to take in mind?

Other suggestions?

Cheers, Trent

Total Project cost for me well over $15,000
My VK is an EFI 5L + T5 + LSD
have a look at http://members.westnet.com.au/scottl/howto/efi5l

Work it out say about $3500-4000 for the engine gearbox
Pacemaker Extractors $700
Rest of exhaust $800
Front Brakes about $800
Susension all round Id allow around $1500-2000
Diff $600-1200 for an LSD depending what you do yourself
Wheels & tyres $2000-2500
Body Kit? $600-1500
Body work $3000
Stereo? $700-$1500
Interior $???
Tacho recalibration to 8cyl $40

Most prices based on you doing work yourself.
Extra parts like moulds, lights, wiring, labour to pay for people to do any work. Plus parts like Radiator, aircon, power steering parts all adds up.

To build a complete ground up VK from scratch to be perfect requires alot of time, money & patience.

I have always thought an RB25DET conversion would be fun to drive but you might as well start with a factory VL turbo and bolt the RB25DET heads on the RB30 block. Quicker and easier conversion.

cheers
