noticed today the dash engine fault light (generically referred to in the manual as the drive train) came on after say 10kms of city driving, cool day.

Read the codes and the coolant temp sensor code came up. Should this set of the engine dash fault light??

Well, if that was the only fault code, then apparently, yes.
Don't wanna ask the obvious, but do you have enough coolant in it?
Watch the precise temp, not the gauge, and see whether it has any weird fluctuations. You activate the precise temp display by holding down the mode and down buttons while you start the car, then press mode once or twice until the temp comes up on the display window.
