Cruise control setup VH SLE?

I've recently bought the GM VB/VH workshop manuals only to find that for some reason, cruise control installation/troubleshooting isn't even discussed!
So, just wondering, does anyone actually know how these are setup?
I have a transducer in the bay, but i've recently taken out the motor and accessories and can't figure it out.
Also, is this vacuum thing part of the cruise control setup:

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

shouldnt that broken looking bit have a cable on it which goes to the carby?

Yes, that "vacuum thing" is part of the c/c. Get yourself the GM factory VC service manual supplement No M38366. It's got it all in there.

Lucky it was only 12 pages and theres lots of questions in this section about it...gotta keep those old vh girls on the road.
Bought that manual a long time ago and never actually got any info out of it....just sat in the bookshelf and never realised it had some useful info....with the cruise you could probably put in a newer vn/p/r/ style cruise(which is a better design and is far easier to find parts for) if you could fit a generic speed sensor in line with the speedo cable and send back the 2 pulse per rev for the stepper motor. My vh v6 uses one and it works ok...even used the spare space in the bottom of the cluster for the on and engaged lights.
