Dash and Electronic Problem

Hi guys,

Got a VT Calais yesterday. Overnight it seemed the battery died,
and today it was replaced. Taking the car out for a drive, it ran regularly
for approx. 15 minutes. At a set of traffic lights my seatbelt pretensioner warning light came on, followed my a set of warning beeps, and i ended
up losing all dash readings, stereo, climate control etc.

Browsed the forum but couldnt see anything resembling this exact problem.

If anyone has had a similar problem, could they let me know what fault it was.

Im used to working on my HZ premier, this VT is a tad more complicated than
the old girl.

Just some more follow up info.

As i was limping home in what seemed to be a backup mode, suddenly the dash became active again, eveyrthing lit up like the ignition had been switched on but the engine was running the entire time. About 15 seconds later, it repeated its sensor death and everything on my dash died.

So is it just the dash giving you problems and the car is running fine?

Maybe a loose connector wire or a loose connection inside the cluster.

I agree with Doctor Bob on this one in that if the car was running ok before the battery was replaced and there were no problems aside then you would have to look at the battery terminals to make sure that they are clean and on correctly all the way down the battery posts and if this is OK, then certainly check your earth connections to the vehicle. My bet is the battery terminals. The computer requires a constant battery voltage to operate correctly and if the voltage is not constant due to a incorrect fitted terminal then all havoc can take place. Good Luck

I had a similar problem with my Statesman about 5 years ago. Holden replaced the alternator under warranty.
