Im not too fussed about the price they charged me as I got employee pricing on the car. I was just wondering what it involved. Thanks for the responses.
Pretty sure under employee pricing the dealer can't charge full whack as they do with a normal customer

Yeah, the dealership can't charge over what Holden lists as employee pricing. The dealer delivery charge for employees is set by Holden and is between $900-$1000.

Do not pay the Dealer Delivery if the Dealer cannot provide you with an itemised account i.e. listing ALL input by them added up to exactly match the amount they are asking. It is a rip off and used by dealers to offer new price discount etc. I have never known a dealer to provide such information, they will often back down on seeking such payment - it is not legally required that a purchaser should pay it. It is not a requirement of the manufacturer. It is a fee introduced by dealers who managed to get away with it particularly with corporate buyers who paid what was on the invoice. Originally (back in the 1960's) it was charged to provide aluminium embossed plates, a key ring with the stealers name embossed and a tank of petrol. Customers thought they were getting something for nothing !!!
Good luck. They will give you $1000 discount if you pay the $2,000 stealer delivery impost.

What a ####ing crock of ****.

Any business needs to make money. They need to pay bills. You think a fairy pays staff wages? Dealer Delivery covers the cost of everything involved in getting the car off the truck right through to the final clean before the purchaser takes delivery. A salesperson gets paid commission on the sale, that comes out of the profit from the car. Everything else comes from the Dealer Delivery charge. Having worked in 2 different brand dealerships, I can tell you there is a lot of work involved in getting a car ready for delivery. One day, go to a dealership when a truck comes in with new cars and look at the state of them. Then look at the shiny ones in the showroom. The magic car fairy doesn't do that.

yep.. and get used to walking coz if you feel so disinclined to pay this fee (which is mandated by Holden by the way) your dealer will NOT register your car for one
and also won't check that your new car is complete (the factory forgot to include a spare wheel on one of our new company cars recently) and also roadworthy (bummer that)

I buy between 30 and 40 cars a year for work from Holden and I have no issue paying this $950 or $995 (varies by model in our case) fee .....
