i drive an oldie as a daily and i feel perfectly safe without the safty features of new cars, i havent had an accident and if i do break traction i keep calm and get it under control, years of playing forza motor sport has finally paid off

all the new crap isnt always safe, i find that when driving the a new car i go to take off at a roundabout in the rain and the car thinks im doing some massive skid so it cuts all power when im in the middle of the road and cars flying at me.

Mate I would feel a lot safer in a good old cruiser than most newer cars these days simply because I've seen the punishment they can take and they just ask for more.

Oh how times have changed.when i grew up we were driving escorts corollas and hq's at pace on gravel roads like rally legends.no-one ever died and very few accidents happened.worst injury any if my mates had was a gloved hand from a rollover in gravel with an arm out the window.soon you wont be allowed to drive at all unless youre packed in the car surrounded in polistyrene peanuts lol

I can remember , when as a child on my grandad's farm in South Africa , riding on the back of an old Custom Line pick up , bouncing across land that was undulating to say the least seat belts inside were non existent , oh how times have changed , probably a good thing

My first car was an 86 Toyota Liteace 5 speed van. It had no safety what so ever and the amount of stupid things we did in it and never flipped it or crashed still amazes me today.

In the past decades the road toll has definitely dropped as cars have become safer and the roads better (and cars more powerful!). There's no question that all this technology makes the roads safer, but I think if these cheapie Chinese cars allows a someone to have an affordable upgrade from their old piece of junk to a modern car with airbags and ABS it's still a good thing, even if they don't have all the toys

I don't get it, do the Chinese models sold here in Australia, the Chery's, Great walls and so forth, do they come with stability control? I still wouldn't drive one, it wouldn't be the stability control I'd be worried about, It would be the embarrassment of driving one in the first place!

Chery's cannot be bought in Victoria though, which is great. Anyone who buys one needs a brain check.

I'm wondering how I ever survived with my first car. It was an FB. I don't think they even came with brakes.........
