Hi everyone

I've wondered if anyone has thought of putting a diesel engine in a commodore as a project, and what it would cost?

I'm thinking 6 or 8 cylinders and TT or TSi

and not for another few years yet just a thought buzzing around that I want to throw out

Good luck. If it was easy it would of been done many times.

What wraith said, but I have heard of (most likely trolls) about putting diesel in their Commodores "from getting the right angle with the nozzle for the fill up" and being more efficient or some sh*t

What sort of diesel engine then? Can't think of any that would drop straight in. Not to mention would be incredibly gutless.

I've contemplated the same thing. Not going to be easy though. Everything is custom one of fabrication. What I've found engine wise is:
Cummins have a 4cyl 4.0litre turbo engine. From factory they're rated at 180kw with 890nm. With some boost and fueling tweaks you'll manage over 400kw and 1200nm easily. And Allison have a 6 spd auto to suit. With this combo they return 11.5 litres/100km in a fully loaded 8 tonne coach.

Like I said, not an easy conversion. Who needs leg room anyway. :)

A VW diesel from an AWD platform like the new Amarok would be one of the best starting points.

Finding a suitable gearbox would be one of the biggest problems, the engines are pretty compact and should fit fairly easy with custom mounts.
