diff gears

just curious, what does changing diff gears do to your performance?

changing to a higher ratio eg. 3.08 to 3.7 will increase torque and acceleration but will lower top end power and speed.
opposite to that will lower torque and acceleration but will mean more top end power and spee.

good example is a mountain bike. put in the lowest gear ratio, hard to pedal but once your up and going nothing will stop you...go to the higer ratio and you pedal like heck accelerate fast but can only get a low top speed until you change gears

All this is of course at the expense of fuel economy as your engine will need to rev higher to maintain the same speed eg original diff 3.08 100kph @ 2000rpm new diff 3.4 100kph at 2500rpm

my calais sat at 1750-1800rpm at 100 with 3.08 gears. with the 3.46 gears it sits at 1950-2000. i've actually noticed and improvement in fuel economy around town highway driving is slightly higher...maybe .5 to 1l/100 more.
