Direct Injection LPG

For anyone who is interested i have had the gas injection system fitted to my GEN3 since last November. The system is not and cannot be a gas only system as it still requires petrol to start the engine ,like all dual fuel systems. I would suggest to run either OPTIMAX or similar fuels to aid in preventing the fuel injectors from gumming up.
Since i've had it installed i have done Melbourne-Queensland-Melbourne and numerous country trips with the usual daily city grind to and from work. The system has performed faultlessly in that time. It's operation is seamless and changes over automatically without any noticible difference during the changeover period or during running.
I have calculated that i have saved about $900.00 since the install. I have always had gas cars (5 in total ranging from a Camira to a Prado),and this is the first one that i ran on petrol for the first 4 years that i owned it because the injection system wasn't available until recently. As far as fitting the standard system goes, my advice is DON'T. The main issue with gas, and it's even worse with a vee configuration engine is backfire. Special attaention has to be paid to spark plug and lead condition and replacement. However sometimes the backfire may still occur. My VR and my Prado did it occaisionally. The problem with the GEN III is that is has a plastic inlet manifold that i have been told this tends to blow itsef to bits if the backfire is severe enough. if you have to purchase one of these as replacement then you can kiss any savings from the gas system goodbye...

Im seriously considering putting that direct injection system on my GEN III, How big is the tank they have fitted to your car? and how many Ks would you get out of a tank? Mine is an A4 and my right foot is quite heavy, so do u still think I would save a considerable amount of money if i were to convert? ive been quoted about $4500 installed up here in Brissy, Does that sound about right?

The tank size is 90 litres with about 74 litres usuable as the tank is only allowed to be 80% full. My conversion cost $4200.00 and i had quotes from $3800.00 and up. The guy who did it for me had done all my other conversions and booked me in straight away, otherwise i was in for a minimum 2 month wait.
Distance per tank can vary depending on driving style and situation. I've varied from low 400's to as high as 600. My fuel economy has varied from as low as 11litres/100 to as high as 18.5 lit/100k. Figure on around 500k's around city if you drive normally. Drive it hard and this will reduce dramatically, as with petrol.
As far as saving money goes, you'll find you use a bit more gas than you would petrol but the price difference more than makes up for it and if you want to drive it hard you don't have to break out in sweat watching the fuel gauge. However the main thing with gas is doing lots of kilometres. The more k's you do the sooner you get your money back. If you do about 40,000km a year the you should get your money back in within 2 years. So before you make this sort of commitment make sure you want to keep the car to recieve the long term benefit.

You'll get your money back quicker than that if your doin 40 000ks a year.
I've only had gas for 2 months and have already saved 350 bucks.
Averaging between 40 to 50 bucks a tank savings.

Was the direct injection gas conversion done in Melbourne, and if so who was it done by.

The conversion was done in Geelong by Jepsons Automotive. He's directly opposite one of the Holden Dealers. He's a small workshop specialising in gas conversions as well as regular servicing and he's been there as long as i can remember. He's done most of my conversions except one i took to Parnells (DON'T) and one to LPGAS1 in Lillydale.
