Paul Danner going through how a dirty throttle body can cause a no start condition, start and stall condition, false MAP codes and false TPS codes.

He covers various cleaning procedures.

I’ve read these issues happening in a lot of threads and how MAP sensors have been changed, MAF sensors replaced, throttle bodies replaced because it’s guessed they are the fault.

Recently someone had MAP codes and couldn’t figure it out as the MAP voltages checked out ok.

In cable operated throttle control, IAC sensors get replaced.

In regard to throttle bodies, being replaced and fault fixed, it’s likely it’s because it’s clean and ETC has had the relearn done. We should be cleaning first and doing the relearn.

In Alloytec motors, why is it dirty? Look to poor PCV design and making the modifications and cleaning that needs. Less oil in the intake and less in the throttle body gunking it up.

Why is the PCV gunked up other than a unmodded PCV? More frequent oil changes should be done.

My preferred cleaning method is to remove the throttle body and clean from both sides with minimal cleaner and paper towel and a toothbrush. No need to open the butterfly or just minimal.
