Just as important as using a torque wrench is following the recommended tightening sequence for the head bolts and manifold bolts. Most workshop manuals will show the correct sequence that needs to be followed. Heads and manifolds can end up warped if the proper tightening sequence is not followed.

You dont NEED to. It all depends on how far you ant to get with your newly rebuilt engine. 2 metres* or 200,000 kms *

*generous figures

What else did you do up without a torque wrench wile you were working your engine ?? All the bolts in the bottom end are ment to be done with a torque wrench as well.

Another thing to be careful of is that you have used a mono-torque head gasket. I am not sure if they still make the cheaper non mono-torque head gaskets anymore but you had to re-torque the heads after 1000ks or the heads could become loose and warp/ crack.
