I have been looking everywhere and still cant find much information.
I have a 04 VZ sedan on my second ALLOYTEC engine.
Its body and interior are immaculate condition. has been really looked after.
I want to put an ecotec in it.
I have sust a 03 VY to buy.
but i want to know if it will be as simple as, alloytec out, Ecotec in. with wiring loom ect.

im not fussed about not geting about the not getting it registered issue, its registered so i don't have to get it checked over.

please, just after a bit of advice

Certainly not as simple as alloytec out, ecotec in. Lots of issues, from compatibility (electrical etc), legal (older engine), insurance (they wont cop it).

I'm fairly sure the VZ was the first of the cars to run Canbus wasnt it? if so its has a whole bunch of extra connections and sensors so putting an ecotec probably wont work and you'd probably find it easier and cheaper to get a clean VY and sell the VZ

Huge job and if going to the effort might as well fit an LS.

There’s a massive reason you do t find lots of info on it. You won’t be able to register it. Well you can if you get the Ecotec to meet emissions standards of the VZ and that’s something Holden couldn’t do.
Best to buy a VY and transfer all your good bits into it.
Or if you want an unregistered banger for some fun, you’ll need a donor VY.

Its good to have some different opinions, I appreciate that guys...
Today I'm pulling the engine, got everything i need to do a basic recon, just got to the workshop checking on some info..
Is it going to be easier to pull engine and auto trans out as one?
or just engine, disconnecting at the torque converter. (leaving torque converter in trans)
lifting from top with crane.

I'm waning this to be as stress free as possible.
just like the old engines use to be, when I done my apprenticeship 15 years ago hahaha
I have never pulled an alloy Tec before

That makes sense, ive decided to simply give old alloytec a recon and get rid of the damn thing lol

If you are lifting it out it’s probably going to be easier to separate the engine and gearbox so you can just lift the engine straight up.

Trying to manoeuvre the engine and gearbox out together means you have to rotate the whole assembly so you will need substantially more clearance underneath to swing the gearbox down and a decent amount of space in front of the engine to swing the front of the engine up.

Or raise the car up high enough drop the whole lot out the bottom kframe and struts etc.

I think that’s a bit quicker and easier but not everyone has the ability to get some height on the car.

Thanks mate, yeah after having a proper look and disconnecting everything I think that is the route I'm going to go down.
I did not realise how much harder it is doing this with only one person...
I don't have enough beer for this hahaha

Anyone in Townsville????
