Hi all,

Can anyone with reasonable knowledge please advise the following:

1. Where does an LS3 pick up the oil temp from, is it sump oil temp or is it post oil pump (to the bearings) temp?

2. At what temperature should you force an oil change, temp over what?

Thanks,

Darren

Hi Darren!

Mate the oil temp calc does not come from a single point on GenIV engines. There are several PIDs to gather more detailed Oil Temp rather than the one fed to the dash unit also, I'd invest in a good OBDII dongle and software, don't trust the calc that's averaged for the dash display.
Regarding freak-out temp, see this recent article.

I've just fitted engine oil cooler as I was getting oil temps in the 125's and higher when I'm having fun,now with cooler installed temp at cruz speed is 98/100 and having fun doing hill climbs and skids with just on 110....worked out good for me
Lets see what it gets to on track day!!??

anything under 200*c should be fine before the oil starts getting degraded
