My VH is making a sound in the morning that sounds as though the fanbelt is loose. However after about 10min. the sound goes away and is not heard again untill the next morning when I first start it again. Sometimes if I first start it in the afternoon it makes the sound alos, but that is rare. Any ideas as to what may be causing the problem and how to fix it? It's a blue 202, 3.3L straight 6.

It could be a bit of oil or grease on it. It might need adjusting. The belts should have about 7-9mm flex in them. So if you pull on a belt, it should go as far as about 7-9mm. Don't overtighten the belts though as this puts stress on the pulley and bearings.

Don't use beltgrip while the engine's running, though - the sudden grip can actually cause the belt to grip and belt you in the face - not pretty I'd imagine :p

Don't use belt grip. Fix the problem, don't go around it.
Maybe a new set of belts is on the cards? They aren't too expensive, and yes - they do wear out.

Cheers, Mudgy

I'm hoping he might have had a chance to fix this issue sometime in the 10 years since he posted it! :)

if it's correctly tensioned, bin the belt and buy a new one.
My Courier ute had the same problem. Made sure it was tight, problem still there on cold start.
Replaced the belt, problem sorted.

The belts do wear out or can be oil/coolant contaminated or glazed
