VS Ecotec - V6 manual
Hi Guys, this is my first post. Got a VS Ecotec - V6 Manual.

I have a coolant leak from the rear plate so I've decided to have a crack at replacing it myself. (also replacing leaking slave cylinder).

Getting the exhaust through the gap on the drivers side is proving to be an annoyance. It hits the steering rack, so I tried moving the rack, but I can't quite get that out of its slot because it hits the exhaust.

Any advice would be appreciated.. cheers.

Drop rear section (cat back) first then undo the 2 flanges on the y pipe and remove it fits

I actually got the the Y section disconnected without taking off the the back section.. but I just can't get the flange out on drivers side. I'll have another go soon.

Never done it but have read its easier if you drop the steering rack

It's pretty easy when you know how to do it. I've never needed to touch the steering rack in a statesman which has the variatronic rack which gets in the way more than a normal rack.

Unbolt it from both manifolds, pull the passenger side downwards a little, and then rotate the whole y piece towards the drivers front door. Then you should be able to work out how to pull it out from there.

Unbolt all the obvious stuff, pretty much. Shifter, tailshaft, bellhousing bolts, clutch line, crossmember. And slide the gearbox back and lower it down.

If you get stuck on how to do anything, post back here so we can get you on the right track.

You'll need new bolts for the flywheel. Can get them from holden for $50-60. They're pretty flimsy things so they're something I wouldn't skimp on.

Start by u bolting the tailshaft at the diff end, then the rubber coupling at the front, and then the centre bearing support. The rod for the shifter will slide out once you remove the clip at the top of the gearbox. The very top rod is a support and the bottom one is responsible for changing gears.
