after a long distance drive, i hopped out to find a long string hangin out of my exhaust. i started the car at home and revved it up to find more of the stringy/fluffy stuff coming out of the exhaust along with bits of rusted metal. i'm thinkin the cat blew its guts out, but has anyone seen/heard of this happening before??? just wanna be sure before i go pulling exhaust apart. its an '02 vy ss by the way..

very highly doubt its the cats causing that problem.... could be the fibreglass out of a muffler maybe? is it a stock system or aftermarket??

sounds like the fibreglass packing is coming loose.... cos there really isnt anything else that can form stringy bits that wouldnt get burnt to smitherines in the exhaust...

Hmmm, didn't think cats contained any 'stringy' stuff, I thought they were a metallic honeycomb inside. I'd go with Peanuts on this one and say it's fibreglass filling from the silencer.

metallic honeycomb inside.

your on the mark holden2gether, its a sortof ceramic honeycombe thing, or a catalyst hence cat,

so no - ummm - woollen cats in that cat, besides the fact that when a cat self destructs they sound like a rock in a milo can, there would also not be chance of cats bits comming out unless there where no baffles in the mufflers

give the mufflers a hit and see if a baffle is loose, (youd pretty well always hear them rattling around anyway)

if your exhaust is still under warrenty take it back and get em to check it out
