I have been experiencing what I’d call a grinding noise from front of vehicle, evident upwards from 30kmhr, being most notable at 70-80k’s

Does not occur during LH turns after which it resumes as soon as steering centred. Noise consistent in RH turns

LH front wheel bearing replaced about 12mths ago. No great vibrations felt through floorpan and no feedback through steering wheel however, noise seems to be increasing in volume

Front tyres swapped with spare, noise persists so short of swapping with rears I can possibly rule out tyre noise

Not related to brake application, front pads at about 50%

Any ideas?

Replace both Front Hubs.
Because if one was replaced 12months ago, possible the other one was most likely not far behind in needing replacement,
Was the one you replaced, New or S/hand ?

Rule of thumb, always replace both at the same time,
Because the one that is not replaced, will fail at the most inconvenient time.

Agree with everything posted. I don't do bushes , shocks or bearings one side at a time. They were made the same day if one's gone the other isn't far off.

And turning left increases right hand side weight as it transfers and loading a bearing up helps noise.

But incase were wrong with assuming. We all know what assume stands for !

Jack car up. 12 and 6 checks for bearing play.

3 and 9 is tie rod ends.

See if she's got any movement.

If not , remove the wheel and have a look at the rotor and pads. Make sure the slides are nice and free and it's not only braking via the pistons side. Could be a brake dragging.

Just thinking,

Check the Tension of the Calliper and Slide Bolts,
Check the Anti-Rattle plates in the callipers.
Also the Hub Bolts,

On Both Sides.

Thank you for your excellent suggestions. A mechanic reaplaced the left bearing with a new part. Upon test driving afterwards he remarked that the tyre must be out of round...

A mechanic reaplaced (sic) the left bearing with a new part. Upon test driving afterwards he remarked that the tyre must be out of round...

Was that because replacing the hub didn't solve your problem???

To check if it is a wheel bearing, jack the car up on the right front corner...Spin that wheel and place your ear close to the centre of the rim and listen for a humming/whirring noise coming from that rim. This will rule out or in the wheel bearing. Repeat on the left side if necessary, as the new bearing might have failed

Tyres....With the front up in the air, run your hand across the whole tread face and feel for high and low spots.....Easily picked up.....If you have this, your tyres will be the cause of the noise....However in saying this, being a grinding noise you can discount tyres as out of round tyres don't make a grinding noise

Thanks again for your invaluable advice

Upon further inspection it would appear to be a sticking brake. With the calliper and pads removed the hub spins freely

Front pads will always drag on the rotor slightly,
But not grind normally. If they grind, they are probably worn out, especially the inner pad.
The Calliper piston could be jamming, because of a pad maybe worn on an angle.
Which would mean you need calliper kits installed, and the brakes bled. [Both Sides, not one side]
That will solve the sticking brake you mentioned.
